Indoor Temperature Standards - Share Your Feedback

Toronto’s bylaws require landlords to maintain indoor temperatures of at least 21 °C from October 1 to May 15 and, for units with air conditioning, no more than 26 °C from June 1 to September 30.

These rules help protect tenants especially vulnerable residents from extreme temperatures year-round.

The City is exploring a maximum temperature standard for all rental units to improve tenant comfort and safety.

Residents are invited to share their feedback through an online survey by September 8, 2025 at toronto.ca/indoor-temperatures.
