Background
In early 2015, a small group of both TCH and Market residents worked to establish a new
neighbourhood association in Regent Park. They worked to establish RPNA’s Values and Goals
together. RPNA is the only truly independent advocacy group in Regent Park.
Mission & Values
These statements form the foundation of the RPNA, providing guidance for our work and
conduct.
Mission
The RPNA seeks to create a safe space where resident voices are amplified on issues that are
important to our neighbourhood and take action.
Vision
The RPNA seeks to foster an inclusive, diverse and healthy neighbourhood in which all
residents feel safe, welcome and at home.
Objectives
Advocacy: Voicing neighbourhood concerns on priority issues that will benefit our entire
community.
Resident Leadership: Ensure resident voices exist in all aspects of governance and
implementation of the Regent Park Social Development Plan by co-chairing the SDP
Stakeholder’s Table and having a representative on the Safety Network, Community
Building, Economic and Employment, and Communications working groups.
Communications: Informing, consulting and engaging RPNA members and the
community on neighbourhood issues and opportunities.
Values
The RPNA is guided by our values:
● We will respect each other’s points of view and respond in a balanced, flexible and
open-minded way.
● We believe in the effectiveness of a cohesive and welcoming environment that
encourages teamwork and inspires cooperation and trust.
● We are committed to supporting one another in achieving our mutual goals for
the RPNA and Regent Park.
● Even though the proportion of TCH and Market residents in Regent Park are not equal,
we pledge to a 50-50 weight of TCH and Market voices in our decision-making.
● We seek to break down power imbalances and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion to
ensure that all voices including those of our most vulnerable neighbours are heard and
recognized.
● We commit to handling both resources and decision-making with transparency.
Achievements
2016: RPNA opened its meetings to all residents, and started recruiting members by holding
delegate elections in each building. “Building-Model” was adopted in order to provide a
wide representation of the residents' voices.
2017: By April 2017, RPNA’s election process resulted in 62 delegates with representation from
all 31 buildings/townhouse groups in Regent Park. On May 4, 2017, RPNA held its first Assembly
of elected delegates, which voted in a 10-person leadership team made up of 5 delegates from
TCH buildings and 5 from market buildings.
2018 - 2019: RPNA responded to the community call for a CBA by establishing RP’s CBC in May
2018. The RPNA secured a community benefits framework in 2019. RPNA volunteers worked
with TCH to ensure a voice for residents in the selection of a developer for Phases 4 and 5 and
for input into the Community Benefits process.
A refreshed SDP Stakeholders’ Table set up four major committees – Safety, Employment and
Entrepreneurship, Community-Building and Communication with several support committees.
RPNA decided to support the voice of the community through the “Community Benefits Coalition”
as well as towards Phase 4 & 5 of the revitalization project.
2020 - 2021: The leadership team consists of 3 Market residents, 3 TCHC residents, 1 service
provider working together in creating a “Terms of Reference (ToR)” document for RPNA. In
addition, towards organizational development, RPNA’s leadership team decided to get the
organization incorporated and is currently in the paperwork process.
2021 -2022: The RPNA has been formally incorporated federally as a Not-For-Profit organization.

The Regent Park Neighbourhood Association (RPNA) was formed in early 2015, with an aim of having an equal proportion of TCHC and Market residents involved in its membership. RPNA represents residents of Regent Park and provides a broad range of advocacy, services and events. In this RPTV news show we interview members of the RPNA Leadership Team to find out more about the RPNA.
